Ekong explains Saudi move: "I has to think about my future"

Nigeria's Super Eagles captain, William Troost Ekong, has revealed that he joined Saudi Pro League side Al Khalood this summer to secure his financial future, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

In an interview on the Counter Attack podcast, Ekong explained that he couldn't turn down the offer, citing his age and the need to think about his family's well-being.

"I'm 31, and now I have to think about the big picture," Ekong said. "I got an offer I couldn't turn down... everybody talks about the opportunity you have there to guarantee your future."

Ekong also highlighted the competitive nature of the Saudi League, mentioning the presence of world-class players like Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante, and Fabinho.

The move from Greek club PAOK Salonika to Al Khalood has sparked debate among fans, but Ekong's comments suggest he prioritized financial security over other considerations.
