New Patriotic Party’s vice-presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is rallying support for the local league.

The widely-respected economic expert was at the Wa Park on Sunday to witness an Elite Cup match between All Stars and Berekum Chelsea.

The vice-presidential candidate of Ghana’s largest opposition party, the New Patriotic Party charged on Ghanaians to support the domestic league.

“I hope that as Ghanaians, we can all support the local league because it is really the future and the key to the strength of Ghana football,” he said

“Football is an internationally competitive game, and so as players, they will leave even in the European leagues from one team to the other, one country to the other.

“I think that our local league needs more support and encouragement. We could certainly do better and I think the more people come out to support them, the more revenues they make, the more investment they can make in the clubs.

“I think the onus is on all of us , government, non-government, Ghanaians as a whole to support the local league because it is a really major part of our sports.”
