Dolphins head coach Stanley Eguma says “past mistakes” must be avoided if the club are to perform better in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) next season.
The Port Harcourt club escaped relegation on the final day of the previous season by the skin of their teeth after drawing 2-2 with Shooting Stars in Ibadan.
Eguma insists that mistakes were responsible for the poor showing of the side last season.
“There were too many mistakes made last season. We lost the best player in the league, Emem Eduok, and did not replace him.
“He was not the only important player that left us but a lack of funds meant we could not get capable replacements for them,” Eguma told supersport.com.
Dolphins were walked over by Club Africain of Tunisia in the early rounds of the 2015 Caf Confederation Cup and Eguma also highlighted that as one of the failures of the just-concluded season.
“We had little or no preparation for the league or our continental campaign.
“Scarcity of funds meant we were walked over in the competition.
“We have to do better next year but for that to happen, the mistakes we made this year must be avoided.
“Early preparation is key and funds must be there for us to achieve our objectives,” he said.
Dolphins finished in 16th place on the 20-team NPFL table with 45 points from 38 matches.
