Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has expressed his joy after making a decisive impact in the Greek Super League derby, writes Nigeriasocernet.com.

The 30-year-old forward, who joined Panathinaikos from Scottish side Glasgow Rangers in a €4.63 million summer move, has settled quickly in Greece, finding the net in back-to-back matches for the Greens this season.

Dessers started in last weekend’s high-profile clash against Olympiacos, where he endured a mixed evening. He was booked in the 39th minute but struck back with his first league goal of the season just three minutes into the second half.

Speaking to Sportal after the match, the former Feyenoord star described the derby as a career highlight:

“I think it’s an honour to play in this derby. In the Netherlands and Scotland, these are the biggest games of the season, for both the fans and the teams.
This is one of the most beautiful matches you can play, maybe in your entire career.”

Dessers also praised his teammates and the atmosphere on the day:

“We have quality as a team, and I think we got a good result on Sunday in a great atmosphere. It gave us confidence and belief. That’s why we’re here — we’re ready for the next step.”

Reflecting on his early days in Greece, the striker admitted it was a quick adjustment:

“Yes, there were some busy and special days, but it was good to finally step onto the pitch in Volos for the first time and get going.”

Looking ahead, Dessers is optimistic about Panathinaikos’ European campaign, adding:

“It’s been a good summer. The club had some tough matches, but we managed to qualify for the Europa League, which was one of our key objectives.”
