Dani Ceballos is set to return to Real Betis after reaching an agreement on a three-year contract with the club where he began his career.
The 30-year-old Spanish midfielder will join Real Betis as a free agent following his departure from Real Madrid. His new deal is expected to run until June 2029.
The agreement was reported by well-known transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, who said the two parties had settled the terms of the contract. Ceballos will therefore resume his career at the club whose academy he came through before establishing himself at one of Spain’s biggest teams.
Ceballos developed within the Real Betis youth system and progressed to the first team. He remained with the Seville club until the summer of 2017, when he moved to Real Madrid.
That transfer began a spell in Madrid during which Ceballos made more than 200 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions. He is now due to leave the club and return to Real Betis, where his professional career began.
The midfielder’s next contract will keep him at Real Betis for three seasons, with the agreement scheduled to remain in force until June 2029. His move will be completed on a free transfer after his Real Madrid exit.
For Ceballos, the deal represents a return to the club that developed him and gave him his first-team opportunity. He left Real Betis in 2017 to continue his career at Real Madrid, where he went on to make over 200 appearances across domestic and European competitions.
His departure from Real Madrid will bring that period of his career to an end, while the agreement with Real Betis will see him wear the club’s colours again after nine years away. The Spanish international is expected to continue his playing career with the team he represented before moving to the capital.
Real Betis’ agreement with Ceballos is for three years, and the contract’s stated end date is June 2029. The player will arrive without a transfer fee because he is joining as a free agent after leaving Real Madrid.
