Chidozie Awaziem scores HNK Hajduk Split's win over NK Osijek

Nigeria's defender, Chidozie Awaziem scored his fifth goal of the season for HNK Hajduk Split in their comfortable victory over NK Osijek on Saturday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The Super Eagles player scored the first goal for his side as they defeated their opponents by three goals to nil in the Croatian League.

Awaziem got things off at Stadion Poljud in the 25th minute after a loose ball from a corner kick fell to his path and fired in a volley from close range.

Dario Melnjak made it two in the 50th minute before Jan Mlakar tripled the lead 12 minutes later.

The Super Eagles defender, who is on loan from Portuguese club Boavista, has scored five league goal in the Croatian top-flight this season and it was his first goal since October 26 in a 3-1 win over Gorica.

Reacting after the game, Awaziem said: “I am very happy about the victory, even more so because we kept a clean sheet once again.

“This is very important for the team. It was not an easy match, but we have our goal, that is to win the Cup and it is very important to keep the mentality and focus.

On scoring his fifth goal of the season, he stated: “I just want to help the club and the team achieve their goals, but of course I’m happy about the goal.”

Hajduk are second in the league standings, seven points behind leaders Dinamo Zagreb with two more games in hand.
