Chelle, who resigned as head coach of Algerian club MC Oran to take the Nigeria job, is believed to have earned a higher salary with the North African club.

The 47-year-old Malian is expected to arrive in Abuja on Sunday to sign a two-year contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Chelle's primary task will be to revive Nigeria's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying hopes, with the Super Eagles currently sitting fifth in Group C with just three points from four games.

The three-time African champions face a tough test when the qualifiers resume in March, with matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
