There is an uneasy calm in the camp of the reigning NPFL champions Rangers International of Enugu ahead of the new football season as inside sources have it that the players are not happy with the state government as they are yet to get any word of appreciation since bringing back the league trophy after 32 years.
According to our source who pleaded anonymity, the players and coaches are yet to hear from the government and it is affecting the players mentally especially having heard how their counterparts in IfeanyiUba FC and Nasarawa United were honoured by their state governments. “The Rangers team is presently in Benin training ahead of the new football season and other clubs are talking to them to move and the players are shocked that nobody has called them to appreciate them. Some of the players are only staying back because of the attraction of the CAF Champions League, ” our source disclosed. However, honour and appreciation may finally come the way of players and officials of the team if the plan of the State government is anything to go by. Reacting to speculations of the uneasiness in the camp of the team, the Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Chuka Charles Ndukwe denied any rift in the camp of the team saying that such insinuations are untrue as the Enugu State government have big plans for the team. “Players and officials of the team will be duly rewarded for their efforts. The Enugu State government has already set two dates aside for honouring the team. At the moment, I can tell you that the players and officials have lands and rewards awaiting them on the 19th or the 21st of December.
We’re just awaiting the announcement for the commencement of the new league season to determine which of the dates would be suitable depending on if Rangers would play home or away,” he assured.
