Champions Kotoko progress to finals of MTN FA Cup win convincing win over Aduana
Asante Kotoko have progressed to the finals of the MTN FA Cup with a convincing 3-1 win over Aduana Stars at the Coronation Park in Sunyani on Friday.
A brace from Christopher Bonney – one from the penalty spot – put the defending champions on their way to the win but not without some late drama.
Godfred Saka pulled one goal back from another penalty kick to see the Fire club mount late pressure on Kotoko in search of the equalizer.
Michael Akuffo however calmed nerves of the champions by scoring late on to make the result certain.
Aduana Stars were however the quickest of the blocks first in the opening embers of the game.
They however failed to make their chances count and were duly punished for it by the time the Porcupine Warriors settled into their rhythm.
Defender Christopher Bonney opened the scoring with a thumping volley from 30-yards after 35 minutes.
Kotoko held onto that lead into recess but gave themselves a deserving cushioning when Bonney tucked away a penalty kick expertly to score a brace.
The momentum swung back into Aduana Stars’ favour with just seven minutes remaining as Godfred Saka also scored from the spot.
But Michael Akuffo scored from a trademark free kick to hand Kotoko the deserved win.
The champions now await the winner of the second semi final game between Hearts of Oak and Medeama in the finals of this year’s contest.
