Kolkata: Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President, has congratulated India for its success in hosting the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017.
In congratulating India, the AFC President stressed that the successful tournament has proven Asia's capabilities in hosting major world football events.
Shaikh Salman, who attended Saturday's final at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium which England won after beating Spain 5-2, also pointed out that the success of the FIFA U-17 World Cup was a definite indication of the position of Asian football at the international level.
The tournament also provided a great push in the efforts to develop football in India and raise the popularity of the game, with the AFC President hailing the big crowds the matches witnessed at all stages of the championship.
The AFC President hailed the tremendous efforts of all stakeholders in India to organise the global event, which brought pride to Asia.
Shaikh Salman also hailed the efforts of the All India Football Federation, chaired by President Praful Patel, in ensuring the FIFA U-17 World Cup was hosted perfectly.
