Lyon came from behind to defeat Nice 2-1 at home in the seventh round of the French championship, surviving the closing stages with 10 players after Keito Nakamura was sent off.

Nice took the lead after 18 minutes when Elye Wahi found the net to put the visitors ahead.

Lyon responded before half-time. Pavel Sulc finished an attack in the 32nd minute to restore parity and send the teams into the interval level at 1-1.

The hosts continued to press for a second goal after the restart and were rewarded when Tanner Tessmann scored to give Lyon the lead.

The goal forced Nice to commit more players forward as they looked for an equaliser, but Lyon’s task became more difficult in the 70th minute when Nakamura received a red card.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Lyon held on to secure the victory.

Lyon moved top of Ligue 1 after holding on to beat Nice 2-1 at home, despite playing the final 20 minutes with 10 men.

The match began cautiously, with both sides involved in a series of strong physical challenges during a cagey opening quarter of an hour. Nice, though, needed only one clear opportunity to break the deadlock.

Elye Wahi supplied the finish in the 18th minute, turning Jonathan Clauss’ precise cross from the right into the net at the first attempt. Lyon responded quickly, with Kail Boudache forcing a strong save from Nice goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf with a powerful strike.

Diouf could not prevent the equaliser in the 32nd minute. Johan Duranville cut inside from the left and sent a low shot towards goal. The effort appeared to be one Diouf should have dealt with, but he spilled the ball at the feet of Pavel Sulc, who reacted smartly to score.

Lyon completed the turnaround only four minutes later. Zachary Athekame delivered an excellent cross and Tanner Tessmann rose above the Nice defence to head Paulo Fonseca’s side in front. Lyon maintained their 2-1 advantage until half-time.

Nice came close to restoring parity seven minutes into the second half when captain Axel Witsel met another dangerous delivery from Clauss with a powerful header. The ball struck the crossbar and bounced away.

Olivier Pantaloni’s team continued to apply pressure, although Mohamed Amoura and Gauthier Hein were unable to seriously test Remy Descamps in the Lyon goal.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men in the 70th minute, less than 10 minutes after Keito Nakamura had entered the game. He was shown a straight red card after catching Mohamed Abdelmonem with a high boot.

Nice almost took immediate advantage. Wahi met a cross with a header, but the effort struck the post as the woodwork came to Lyon’s rescue for a second time.

The visitors continued to search for an equaliser in the closing stages, and Wahi appeared to have found it in stoppage time. However, his celebrations ended when the goal was ruled out for the narrowest of offside decisions.

The defeat stops Nice’s mini-revival at two consecutive wins, leaving them 13th in the table. Lyon are one of four teams on 14 points, but their superior goal difference puts them top after a fifth victory in their past six meetings with the side from the Cote d’Azur.

Zachary Athekame was named Flashscore Man of the Match for Lyon.

Paris defeated Rennes 4-3 at home in the seventh round of the French championship, with the referee awarding four penalties during an eventful game.

Maxime Lopez put the hosts ahead after 14 minutes, but Rennes levelled when Esteban Lepaul converted from the spot in the 29th minute.

Paris regained the lead just before half-time. Lopez struck again in the fourth minute of added time at the end of the first half to complete his double and make it 2-1.

Rennes continued to press after the interval and were awarded another penalty in the 74th minute. Lepaul again made no mistake, scoring his second goal of the match to restore parity.

The visitors’ equaliser lasted only two minutes. Lassine Sinayoko restored Paris’s advantage, but the home side could not hold on to it.

Rennes were awarded a third penalty late in the match, and Lepaul completed his hat-trick from the spot to make it 3-3.

There was still time for one final twist. The referee awarded another penalty before the final whistle, and Sinayoko converted to secure victory for Paris.

Auxerre secured a 3-1 victory away to Le Havre in the seventh round of the French championship, with Danny Namaso scoring twice before Romain Faivre completed the win.

The opening half was closely contested, with neither side able to create a breakthrough for much of the match. Auxerre eventually found a way through in the 40th minute, when Namaso finished an attack by sending the ball into the home side’s goal.

That strike gave the visitors a narrow advantage at half-time, and Auxerre continued to play positively after the interval.

Namaso doubled the lead in the 61st minute, completing his brace and putting Auxerre in a strong position. The visitors appeared to be in control, but Le Havre responded quickly.

Ryan Fofana reduced the deficit to one goal in the 66th minute, giving the hosts renewed hope of rescuing a result. Auxerre were then forced to withstand pressure as Le Havre looked for an equaliser.

The visitors held on to their advantage and eventually found an opportunity to settle the contest. Faivre scored Auxerre’s third goal, securing the away side’s victory.

Lorient beat Monaco 1-0 at home to inflict their first defeat of the Ligue 1 campaign in the seventh round of matches.

The only goal came in the 61st minute, when Noa Kadiu converted a penalty with confidence to put the hosts ahead.

Monaco responded by committing more players to attack in search of an equaliser, but Lorient held on to claim victory.

Russian midfielder Aleksandr Golovin played the full 90 minutes for Monaco but did not register a goal or assist.

The result leaves Monaco with 14 points from their opening matches, while Lorient move to 11 points.

Lorient secured consecutive Ligue 1 victories for the first time in 21 attempts by beating AS Monaco 1-0 at Stade du Moustoir - Yves Allainmat.

The result prevented Monaco from finishing the weekend at the top of the table, while Lorient climbed six places despite having won only four of their past 11 competitive home matches, drawing three and losing four.

It was a subdued opening, with neither side able to establish control in the final third. There was only one attempt in the first 15 minutes, when Ansu Fati headed over the crossbar.

Possession was evenly shared, but much of the game was played in a crowded midfield. Both teams repeatedly moved the ball sideways or back towards their defence, producing few openings.

Matthis Abline’s attempt from 25 yards, which flew into the crowd, reflected the lack of quality during a disappointing first half.

As Monaco pushed their full-backs forward, they left space for Lorient to attack behind them. Arsene Kouassi found room on several occasions but could not deliver a final ball for a team-mate.

Monaco created their best opportunity of the opening period after Ibrahima Balde used excellent skill to open up the Lorient defence on the half-hour mark. His shot was blocked, however, and three further efforts from the visitors before the break failed to seriously trouble the hosts.

Monaco started the second half with greater urgency and produced three chances within two minutes of the restart. Lorient remained competitive through their physical approach, with Montassar Talbi and Nathaniel Adjei providing a formidable defensive barrier.

The pair had won nine duels between them by the end of the match, helping Lorient withstand sustained pressure and prevent Monaco from finding a way through.

Lorient were awarded a penalty after Flavio Nazhinho clumsily challenged Dembo Sylla just after the hour. Noah Cadiou made no mistake from the spot, sending a confident right-footed effort beyond Lukas Hradecky.

Monaco were forced to take greater risks as they searched for an equaliser and spent much of the closing stages on the front foot. Their finishing remained a problem, though, with only three of their 13 attempts on target with 10 minutes remaining.

Lorient came closest to adding a second goal when Sylla struck the post with an effort from outside the penalty area.

The defeat leaves Monaco fourth in Ligue 1 on 14 points, the same total as each of the three teams above them. Lamine Camara of AS Monaco was named Flashscore’s Man of the Match.

Marseille produced a commanding comeback to beat Angers 5-2 away from home in the seventh round of the French championship.

Angers made the stronger start and took the lead in the 14th minute when Lilian Raolisoa found the net. Marseille responded before half-time, however, turning the match around with two goals in the space of six minutes.

Himad Abdelli brought the visitors level in the 37th minute before Nouhoum Kamissoko completed the turnaround shortly before the interval, putting Marseille 2-1 ahead in the 43rd minute.

The visitors extended their advantage after the break. Amine Gouiri scored Marseille’s third goal in the 60th minute, leaving Angers needing to find a response to stay in contention.

The home side were given hope when Amine El Ouazzani converted a penalty in the 75th minute, reducing the deficit to 3-2.

That revival was short-lived. Amine Harit restored Marseille’s two-goal advantage in the 83rd minute, and Igor Paixao added another just two minutes later to complete a convincing away victory.

Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that defender Nuno Mendes is unavailable for Tuesday’s Champions League meeting with Barcelona.

The France champions announced on their official website that Mendes had been added to their injury list, ruling him out of the third-round fixture.

Mendes is regarded as the world’s most expensive left-back, with his value listed at €80m by Transfermarkt.

Paris Saint-Germain head into the match after beating Strasbourg 3-1 away from home on Saturday.

Marseille ended a difficult run of form by recovering from an early setback to beat Angers 5-2 at the Stade Raymond-Kopa.

The victory, which followed a record of one win and six defeats, gives L’OM consecutive league wins and lifts them to ninth in Ligue 1. Angers remain 14th after suffering back-to-back losses and could drop into the bottom three, depending on other results.

Marseille made the brighter start and created two promising opportunities in the opening stages. Igor Paixao cut in from the left and went close to scoring his first goal of the season, while Tochukwu Nnadi sent a shot narrowly wide.

However, the visitors fell behind in unfortunate circumstances after 14 minutes. Amine Sbai created the opening with an impressive run on the left, beating his marker before delivering a dangerous cross. Geoffrey Kondogbia attempted to head clear but instead directed the ball into Lilian Rao-Lisoa’s face from close range, with the ball then trickling over the line.

The unexpected goal disrupted Marseille’s momentum, but they recovered before half-time and turned the match around with two headers.

Timothy Weah, who had already made an impact with his defensive work, supplied the equaliser from the right. His cross found Himad Abdelli, who powered a header past his former club’s goalkeeper.

Marseille then completed the turnaround shortly before the interval. Emerson’s corner was met by Nouhoum Kamissoko, who rose highest to head the visitors into a 2-1 lead.

The away side extended that advantage shortly before the hour. Amine Gouiri won a penalty after driving into the Angers area, but Anthony Lopes saved his initial effort. Gouiri reacted quickest to the rebound, though, and put the ball into the net at the second attempt.

Angers were handed an opportunity to respond with 15 minutes remaining. Carlens Arcus was pulled to the ground during a corner, and Amine El Ouazzani converted the resulting penalty calmly beyond Jeffrey de Lange to reduce the deficit to one.

Their hopes of completing a comeback lasted only briefly. Amine Harit restored Marseille’s two-goal advantage with a well-executed curling finish before Paixao added a fifth in similar fashion.

The result helps Marseille recover from a poor beginning to their Ligue 1 campaign, in which they had previously recorded one win and four defeats. Their consecutive victories have moved them into ninth place.

Angers now face the prospect of slipping further down the table after their second successive defeat.

The hosts have also shown they can trouble opponents and take points from difficult fixtures. Their disciplined performances will be tested by a Monaco side currently leading the division.

Monaco have made the stronger start of the two teams, taking 14 points from their opening six games. They have scored five more goals than they have conceded, while their defence has allowed opponents to find the net only three times.

That record leaves Monaco top of Ligue 1 ahead of their trip to Lorient.

Paris Saint-Germain are interested in Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Rest as part of the club’s long-term plans for strengthening their squad, according to journalist Ekrem Konur.

The Paris club are keeping track of the 21-year-old, who has emerged as a potential target for their future recruitment strategy. No details of a formal offer or negotiations have been reported.

Rest has also previously been linked with a move to Real Madrid, with reports suggesting the Spanish club are interested in signing the goalkeeper.

Ilya Zabarnyi made a social media post after Paris Saint-Germain defeated Strasbourg 3-1 in the seventh round of the French championship, with Matvey Safonov named the match’s best player.

The victory also saw Zabarnyi score his first goal for the Parisian club in the current campaign.

The Ukraine international, 24, joined Paris Saint-Germain in summer 2025. His contract with the club runs until the end of June 2030, while his transfer value is estimated at 40 million euros.

Russian goalkeeper Safonov was the standout performer in the win, as Paris Saint-Germain secured all three points against Strasbourg.

The result moved Paris Saint-Germain on to 14 points and up to third place in Ligue 1.

Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain defeated Strasbourg in the latest round of the French championship, but Ousmane Dembele failed to convert from the penalty spot during the match.

The missed attempt was Paris Saint-Germain’s third failure from four penalties taken this season. The club have therefore scored just one of their four spot-kicks, meaning they have missed 75% of their penalties.

The only successful penalty came from Lucas Beraldo in the previous match against Le Mans. Desire Doue also failed to score from the spot in that game.

Paris Saint-Germain left-back Nuno Mendes is expected to be fit for Tuesday’s Champions League match against Barcelona, despite concerns over an issue suffered at the weekend.

The 24-year-old Portugal international came on as a second-half substitute during PSG’s 3-1 Ligue 1 victory over Strasbourg on Saturday. He later felt discomfort, raising doubts over whether he would be able to face Barcelona.

However, the initial examinations have not found any problems, according to journalist Reshad Rahman, who cites RMC Sport. PSG are not believed to be concerned about Mendes’ condition.

Luis Enrique’s side will host Barcelona on Tuesday, 20 October.

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique says Ousmane Dembele has an excellent understanding of football and believes his previous experience at Barcelona means he already knows what to expect.

The 29-year-old came on in the 63rd minute of Saturday’s Ligue 1 match against Strasbourg. Although he missed a penalty, Dembele scored and provided an assist as the reigning champions recovered to secure a 3-1 comeback victory late in the game.

“Dembele already knows everything, because he played for Barcelona,” said Luis Enrique.

The visitors regained the advantage just before half-time. Odsonne Edouard struck in the second minute of added time at the end of the first half to put Lens back in front.

Lens continued to control the match after the restart and extended their lead in the 55th minute, when Ruben Aguilar made it 3-1.

Troyes were unable to reduce the deficit during the remaining minutes as Lens secured all three points.
