CAFCL: Enyimba crash out in first round after draw with Al Ahly Benghazi

Published on: 28 August 2023

Nigeria Premier League champions, Enyimba Football Club have been knocked out of the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions by Benghazi of Libya on Sunday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The People's Elephant played a stalemate situation with the Libyan side in Aba at the Enyimba Stadium after a narrow (4-3) loss in the first leg seven days ago thereby crashing out on goal aggregate of 4-3.

The Nigerian giant had the game in their hands, but failing to utilise the momentum garnered was their undoing.

Al Ahly Benghazi ended Enyimba's 14-match scoring run at home on the continent as the Nigerian representative, failed to score at home for the first time since a 0-0 draw against Al Hilal in September 2019.

It is also first time since 2015 that the Nigerian champions will be eliminated in the preliminary round of the tournament they have won twice – the only club side from the country to have done so.
