CAF CL: Rivers United record first leg against defending champion

Rivers United were slim winners in the first leg match of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round.

The team from Rivers State triumphed in quiet a tough encounter by two goals to one at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Sunday.

Goals from Malachi Ohawume and Paul Acquah of Rivers United nullified Bouly Sambou's goal.

After a cagey thirty minutes of play, the Moroccans finally got the breakthrough as Sambou put the visiting team ahead in the 32nd minute.

However, Rivers responded immediately through Ohawume who brought the match to equilibrium two minute later.

The tie would remain that way as the two sides headed into the dressing room with nothing to choose.

At the start of the second half, the home side realised they need to get a win in this fixture to in order to increase their chances of qualification as Acquah with a beautiful finish put United in the lead in the 53rd.

The half continued with a couple of chances for both side, but the score remained the same as Rivers United head into the second leg at Casablanca next weekend with the win.
