The Augsburg player doesn't appear good enough for Chelsea's first team squad and perhaps, given that he's turning 21 this summer, a little too old in relation to his progress to be considered as someone for Chelsea's loan army.

That could be harsh, but something just didn't sit right.

Baba's agent had been talking up the possibility of a transfer and Chelsea links just fit in with that, but German magazine Kicker think differently.

They claim that Chelsea's Michel Emenalo has already initiated talks with the German club and therefore things are quite serious indeed.

That it's Emenalo leading things suggests the plan would be for Baba to be part of the loan rangers Chelsea currently have dotted around Europe.

Kicker say that Emenalo's decent relationship with Avram Grant, Baba's national manager, has helped Chelsea find out about the player and also helped build contacts up and therefore set up a possible deal.

Roman Abramovich has always thought a lot of Grant, often to the bemusement of others, and as such there's still a decent relationship between Chelsea's former manager and the club.

Baba is a left back who can play further forward as a left winger - the same for nearly all the upcoming generation of full backs.
