Dutch, Ajax and Manchester United legend, Edwin Van der Sar says Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey is an important signing for the club.
Bassey who replaced new Manchester United signing Lisandro Martínez, became Nigeria's most expensive defender after he joined Ajax on permanent deal until June 2026 from Rangers for €22m fixed fee plus add ons and sell-on clause.
Edwin Van der Sar, Ajax Chief Executive said on Saturday: "Busy couple of days at the offices in Amsterdam but through a lot of teamwork and dedication we managed to sign two important players Calvin Bassey and Brian Brobbey. Team is working hard together in preparation for the new season."
Meanwhile Bassey has fully integrated with the club, who he said joined because of their rich history, good football and Champions League.
Bassey who has taken the Amsterdam bases club number 33 jersey, began training with the team three days ago under the watchful eyes of the club trainers.
