Barcelona return to LaLiga action on October 31st with their defensive options severely reduced for the visit of Alaves to Catalonia.

The champions’ 100% start to their Spanish title defence ended with a 2-1 El Clasico defeat by Real Madrid last weekend. The result allowed Jose Mourinho’s side to close the gap to Hansi Flick’s league leaders to three points.

Barcelona also lost Xavi Espart during the early stages of the match. The Spain U21 international has been ruled out for two months after suffering a sprained ankle, leaving Flick without another option at right-back.

Jules Kounde remains unavailable because of an ankle problem of his own and has been unable to complete full training this week. Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen are also still out of contention.

The absence of those four defenders means Flick is expected to consider an emergency solution for Saturday’s game. Joao Cancelo moving across from left-back is the most likely option, with Alejandro Bale potentially starting on the other side of the defence.

Flick could also strengthen his matchday squad with two players from La Masia. Alex Campos and Guillem Victor are in contention to be included as Barcelona attempt to deal with their defensive shortage.
