Ghana U20 captain Joseph Owusu Bempah says they did not deserve to lose to Nigeria in yesterday’s African Youth Championship semi-final.

The right back and his teammates outplayed the Flying Eagles but lacked the killer instinct in the goal area of the Flying Eagles.

Nigeria opened scoring after 22 minutes through midfielder Obinna Nwobodo, who nodded home a corner taken by skipper Musa Muhammed.

They doubled their advantage in the 71st minute from the penalty spot when skipper Musa converted after he was brought down on his way to goal.

Bempah thought the score line did not tell the whole story.

"We fought our hearts out but things did not go our way. We did our best but did not take our chances and they (Nigeria) punished us by scoring the first goal and later the second from the penalty,” the Hearts of Oak player said.

"We did our best but it was not enough. We will work hard for the third place."
