Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi opened his goalscoring account for Coventry City as the Sky Blues defeated Plymouth Argyle 4-2 in the EFL Cup on Tuesday evening, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Awoniyi gave Coventry a perfect start, finding the net early in the encounter to put his side ahead.

Jack Rudoni doubled Coventry’s advantage before Plymouth pulled one back through Oliver Irow midway through the first half.

The visitors completed their comeback shortly after the restart when Amaechi scored in the 54th minute to level the contest at 2-2.

Coventry responded strongly, with Mason restoring their lead before Victor Torp added a fourth goal to seal an entertaining 4-2 victory.

The goal marks a positive start to Awoniyi’s new chapter at Coventry following his summer move from Nottingham Forest.
