Joe Aribo and Southampton have been eliminated from the Carabao Cup following the 1-2 quarter-final loss to Liverpool on Wednesday night at the St Mary’s Stadium, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Liverpool took control of the match with first-half goals from Darwin Núñez and Harvey Elliott. Although Southampton fought back in the second half, with Cameron Archer pulling one back, they couldn't complete a full comeback.
The Nigerian midfielder who featured when they played out a five goal thriller at home in the EPL back in November was also in action yesterday night but despite putting on a show, it wasn't enough as they fell short of a clinical Reds frontline.
Liverpool have now advanced to the last four of the competition as Southampton turn their action to EPL top-flight survival.
