Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) head coach Fatai Amoo has thrown his weight behind Rivers United technical manager Stanley Eguma to lead the Port Harcourt club to a solid showing in the 2017 Caf Champions League.
Rivers United will face Malian club AS Real Bamako on Saturday in their first ever Caf Champions League game.
Amoo, whose 3SC beat United 2-1 at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan on Sunday is tipping the Port Harcourt club to avoid defeat when they face the Malians in Bamako.
“I know my boys played well against Rivers United and deserved to win on Sunday.
“But I also think Rivers United rested some of their best players that day and some of the ones that played probably did not give their best because they did not want to pick up any injuries and miss the game against Real Bamako.
“They focused more on that game in Mali than they did in the game they played against us on Sunday,” he told supersport.com.
Amoo, who has previously coached clubs like Julius Berger and Sunshine Stars in the Caf Champions League, also spoke about his respect for Eguma.
“Eguma is a very experienced coach. I have known him for many years and I trust his abilities.
“I know Eguma will go for a win in Mali and even a draw over there will not be a bad result.
“Rivers United have got the players to do the job over there,” he said.
Rivers United’s game against AS Real Bamako on Saturday will be played at the Stade Omnisports Modibo Keïta, Bamako.
