Bayern Munich have persuaded the Spain international Thiago Alcantara to pen a new contract that will keep him at the Allianz Arena until 2019.

Bayern boss Pep Guardiola signed Alcantara from his former club Barcelona two years ago and the 24-year-old has gone on to make 41 appearances in all competitions for the Bavarians in two injury-hit seasons.

He was sidelined for more than a year with a knee injury until returning to action in April but his recent form has persuaded Bayern to hand him a two-year extension to his previous deal.

"We are pleased that Thiago has decided to remain at Bayern in the long term," said the club's chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

"He is young and he is an important player for the future of this club."

Thiago has played a part in both of Bayern's first two Bundesliga games of the season. Bayern Munich are available at 4/11 to beat Bayer Leverkusen this weekend and are 8/1 to win the match 3-0.
