Akwa’s Ojo apologises for awful error

Akwa United goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo has apologised to the club’s fans for his costly mistake against El-Kanemi Warriors at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on Sunday.

El-Kanemi claimed a 1-0 away win in one of the opening fixtures of the 2018/19 Nigeria Professional Football League season.

It was the first win in four years for the northerners in Uyo. Ba’akaka Ajikolo scored the lone goal after Ojo left his goalpost unmanned.

With less than a minute to the end of the match, Ojo pushed forward for a counter. The former Giwa FC goalkeeper beat his first opponent but lost the ball in the midfield to an El-Kanemi player.

The visitors immediately spread the ball wide to Ajikolo and the substitute scored with a curling effort from 45 yards

He wrote, “I accept my mistake and take it in good fate, I’ve also learnt my lesson – despite what is being said about me. My intention was a positive one before the unfortunate incident happened.

“But can I blame God for this? Absolutely no. So, I sincerely apologise to all that this must have affected in anyway. Yesterday (Sunday) is gone and gone for good. The light ahead will shine brighter. Once again, I am sorry. God bless us all…We are united.”
