African Blind Football Championship: Nigeria lose chance for a medal

Nigeria representatives, the Star Eagles at the 2022 IBSA 5th African Blind football Championship lost their final group match against Mali.

The Nigeria team lost 0-3 at the Stade Municipal Elmasoria Stadium, Bouznika, Morrocco, on Thursday to crash out with just a win in the tournament .

 

Star Eagles were drawn alongside Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, host nation Morocco and Mali in a five-team tournament.

 

The team from Nigeria started their campaign against Cote D'Ivoire winning by a goal to nil on Saturday.

The Star Eagles subsequently lost to Egypt  by a  goal to nil on Monday and fell 0-4 to Morocco on Tuesday before a one day tournament break.

 

The team's loss to Mali in their last group match means they crash out of the tournament after conceding more goals (8) than Egypt and Cote D'Ivoire's seven with same points.

 

Nigeria finished fourth in the last edition hosted in Enugu, Nigeria in 2019.
