The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that Spidercam technology will be installed across all nine stadiums hosting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, marking its first-ever full-tournament deployment at Africa’s biggest football event.

Already popular in the UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup, Spidercam will provide sweeping aerial visuals and dynamic pitch-level tracking, giving fans an immersive viewing experience. The system, suspended on cables anchored to four points in each stadium, will be operated by two technicians—one handling movement, the other camera framing—with safety measures including emergency brakes, anti-collision sensors, and backup motors.

Morocco’s broadcasters have previous experience with Spidercam, having used it during the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup and the Morocco-Brazil friendly in 2023. The installation, budgeted at MAD 9.5 million (approx. $957,000 USD), will cover all AFCON venues, including Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium (MAD 1.43m) and Casablanca’s Mohammed V Stadium (MAD 1.37m).

A successful test run was conducted during the June 9 Morocco vs Benin friendly at the Fez Stadium, clearing the way for its AFCON debut. Organisers say the technology will elevate broadcast quality and set a new benchmark for African football coverage.
