AFCON hosts Equatorial Guinea are believed to have performed a black magic ritual, which they hope will help them go past Tunisia in today’s quarterfinal.
It has been gathered that a black magician sneaked into the 35,000-capacity Estadio de Bata Friday night and performed the ritual.
A groundsman disclosed they have had to patch up a part of the pitch, which the magician burnt while doing his ritual.
“He was also at the pitch to bury chicken bones and other stuff before the match against Gabon, which they won 2-0 to qualify for the last-eight,’ revealed the groundsman.
Such practice is not uncommon in most of Africa even though it goes by various names like “juju” and “muti”.
Nzalang Nacional, as the Equatorial Guinea team are known by their fans, have never lost at Estadio de Bata.
They were forced to a 1-1 draw by Congo Brazzaville in the opening game of the tournament, before they were held to a goalless draw by Burkina Faso at this same match venue.
And now only a match separates them from a first-ever semi-final appearance in the AFCON.
Three years ago as co-hosts of the tournament, they crashed out 3-0 to Cote d’Ivoire also in the quarterfinal staged in Malabo.
