The chairman of Ghana's national team has rubbished suggestions that a curse or the work of black magicians 'juju men' is the cause of the Black Stars inability to win the Africa Cup of Nations over the past 33 years.
The Black Stars have not won the title since they grabbed their fourth trophy in 1982 which has led to suggestions that the curse of former players on the national team is the result of the barren spell.
Other claim that the work of black magicians who are seeking the downfall of the side could also be the reason why Ghana has not been able to win the title even though they have reached the semi-final of the past five tournaments.
Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee George Afriyie says he does not believe that Ghana’s inability to win the African Cup of Nation in the last 33 years is the work of an unseen hand.
“I don’t believe that the trophy drought is the handiwork of some unseen hand. I have faith in the God I serve,"Afriyie told a press conference in the Ghana camp.
"We are doing the right things to ensure we win the trophy. Most of us believe it has to do more with psychological reasons and not spirituality.”
The Black Stars have reached the semi-finals of the African Cup for five successive times yet they have not been able to win the ultimate.
The Black Stars have once again reached to the semi-finals and have booked a date with host nation, Equatorial Guinea in Malabo tomorrow.
A win for Ghana will take the Black Stars one step closer to ending the inexplicable trophy barren spell.
Ghana will meet either Ivory Coast or DR Congo should the Black Stars beat the host nation in the semi-finals.
