His efforts saw the Italian side score in both halves of the game and win after their first loss of the season against Lazio last week.

Lookman shot had been stopped in the 32nd minute of the tie, but Dutch defender Hans Hateboer was on hand for the rebound to give Atalanta the lead.

The Super Eagles attacker scored the second goal and his 5th for the away side who beat Super Eagles defender Tyronne Ebuehi's Empoli by two goals to nil.

He beat few Empoli defenders with a dummy before putting the ball beyond the goalkeeper in the 59th minute of the match.

The in form Nigerian player almost scored a brace in the 71st minute, but his close range finish was parried by the goalkeeper.

Lookman saw action for 88 minutes before he was taken off and  replaced by Zortea while Ebuehi was on for Empoli for ninety minutes.

It is an eighth win so far this season as Atalanta move back into second place albeit temporarily.
