AC Milan Set Their Sights on Previous Target After Unai Emery Snubs San Siro

Published on: 07 June 2016

"?AC Milan have set their stall out to bring in their previous managerial target, former Empoli coach Marco Giampaolo after being snubbed by Sevilla boss Unai Emery.

Emery, 44, helped guide Sevilla to an unprecedented three successive Europa League triumphs in 2016 after beating Liverpool 3-1 in Switzerland.

The Spanish coach has gone on to gain interest from top clubs like AC Milan, but it is widely thought that Milan are now out of the running for his signature.

Emery is expected to replace Laurent Blanc for French giants Paris Saint-Germain in a deal which could be finalised as early as this week according to "?Gazzetta World.

The Rossoneri however have now set their sights on previous target Marco Giampaolo after Emery's decision.

Milan had targeted Giampaolo before putting all their resources in trying to lure Emery to the San Siro. Contact has now been re-established between Milan and Giampaolo.

Giampaolo, 48, led Empoli to a respectable 10th place finish in Serie A last season before leaving his job in May after only one season in charge. He has since been linked with a move to Milan.

"It's an honour to be linked with the Rossoneri, but there's nothing definite and there haven't been any meetings,"? Giampaolo stated during an event for the Italian Association of Coaches.

Current boss Cristian Brocchi has reportedly been left in the dark about his position after a disappointing seventh place finish in Serie A last season. A huge ten points behind city rivals Inter, meaning yet another year without European football for AC Milan.

The Rossoneri are set to be taken over by Chinese investors who will be taking ownership of the club from 79-year-old Silvio Berlusconi. The Chinese investors are keen to replace Brocchi and appoint their own man to take the reigns at the San Siro.

With plenty of change at Milan, Giampaolo could be the right man to steer them back to glory.
