As the October 9 date for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier between the Super Eagles and the Chipolopolo of  Zambia looms, the Football Association of Zambia are stepping up efforts to ensure they grab the three points at stake.

One of the steps FAZ is taking is to engage the services of an expatriate coach who will join newly appointed caretaker coach, Wedson  Nyirenda to scuttle the Super Eagles dream of a favourable result in Ndola. Former Bafana Bafana coach, Gordon Igesund has been in talks with FAZ for the Chipolopolo top job.

Wedson Nyirenda’s appointment as assistant national team coach was announced September 13 by FAZ.

His appointment took immediate effect. According to a statement by FAZ, “the process for recruitment of an expatriate coach is still underway with finalization between FAZ and the ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development at an advanced stage.”

The statement added, “Once this is concluded Mr Wedson Nyirenda will revert to his appointed role of full-time assistant national team coach.” Nyirenda joins the Zambia national team from Ferroviario de Beira in Mozambique,” the statement signed by Liwewe reads.

FAZ have not hidden their intention to see to the defeat of the three-time African champions in Ndola. “We cannot afford to fail to qualify for the World Cup after the Afcon disaster,” an official said, adding, “we need the World Cup ticket more than Nigeria. They have been there five times This is our time.”
