Nigeria Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong is to undergo surgery in Finland on Tuesday to repair a ruptured biceps femoris in his right leg, Nigeriasoccernet.com has gathered.

Ekong suffered the hamstring injury in group game against Ivory Coast, but played through the pain to help Nigeria finish second in the African Cup of Nations.

According to renowned African journalist, Oluwashina Okeleji, Ekong will be in the safe hands of Dr Lasse Lampeinen for Tuesday’s surgery.

The PAOK defender missed the last group game against Guinea Bissau, but played through the pain against Cameroon Angola, South Africa and hosts, Cote D'Ivoire in the final.

Ekong scored 3 goals and was outstanding for the Super Eagles as he was named Most Valuable Player of the 34 edition of the AFCON.
