Why Shehu Abdullahi Retained His Spot In Super Eagles Starting XI Against Czech Republic

Bursaspor of Turkey midfielder cum defender Shehu Abdullahi was widely expected to be axed from the starting line up for Nigeria’s friendly game against Czech Republic after his not too impressive performance against England on Saturday.

However the full back retained his spot to the surprise of many with Tyronne Ebuehi who did very well after replacing him in the second half of the England game once again left on the bench.

Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria views Abdullahi as a better defender especially in one on one duels than Ebuehi who is technically ahead but suspect when it comes to winning duels and physical challenge.

Furthermore, Shehu is the best fit for the 4-2-3-1 formation of the Super Eagles than Ebuehi, who has excelled as a wing back more than he has as a right full back particularly in the 0-2 ?friendly loss to Serbia.

Ebuehi will likely replace Shehu in the second half but that too will be partly due to the fact that the former Kano Pillars ace is observing the Ramadan fast and will need to rest before breaking his fast after the game
