Enyimba’s Mfon Udoh has emerged as the highest goal scorer of the 2016 CAF Champions League.

The Nigerian scored nine goals to top the scorers’ chart of the competition, which ended on Sunday, with Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa winning their first continental title after beating Egyptian side Zamalek 3-1 on aggregate in the final.

Despite Enyimba exiting the competition in the group stages, the Nigeria Premier League all-time top-scorer had more goals than other players in the competition.

Moroccan Reda Hajouj of Wydad Casablanca came second with six goals, DR Congo’s Idriss Mbombo of Zesco United, who scored five goals, and eight other players with four goals each.

All of Udoh’s nine goals were scored in the People’s Elephant’s home matches in the competition. His first two goals came in Enyimba’s preliminary round second leg game against Vipers FC in Port Harcourt. He scored another brace in the first round of the competition against Vital’O in a 5-1 home victory in Port Harcourt.

In the final qualifying round, Udoh netted a hat-trick in the first leg against Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel for a convincing 3-0 win in Port Harcourt. He scored his last brace to complete the haul in Enyimba’s 3-1 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns in the penultimate Group B match at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.
