Things change in the blink of an eye in football. The Football Whispers Index takes the latest transfer rumours and gives them a score out of five; the higher the score, the more realistic and reliable the whisper.

Here are today's top five emerging whispers. And keep an eye on Transfer Talk for all the latest gossip.

Jordi Alba to Tottenham - 3.3

Although swap deals are very rare in top level football, it never stops them being touted. Danny Rose may be keen on a move to Manchester United, but according to the Daily Star, Barcelona are very interested in a move for the England left-back. The Blaugrana already have Jordi Alba and Lucas Digne, but if the Spaniard were to swap Catalonia for North London, the deal could work for all parties.

Danny Rose to Barcelona - 2.9

Pushing for a move in the summer, Rose claimed he wanted to move up north to be nearer family. Rumours of a move in January have surfaced and although Rose would prefer Old Trafford as his next home, the Daily Star suggest Barcelona are keen. It would take an offer of around £45 million to land him, but Barca would hope to bring the fee down by including Alba in any deal.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Manchester United - 2.4

Linked with a move to Manchester City and Chelsea, The Sun report Jose Mourinho sent his scouting team to Genoa at the weekend to watch the Serbian midfielder. They would have been happy with their trip, witnessing the 22-year-old change the game against Sampdoria. Not only did he draw the score level with 11 minutes to go, but his rampaging run through the home side saw him slip a killer pass to Felipe Caicedo for the 90th-minute winner. Regarded as one of Europe's next big stars, he is contracted until 2022, so United know it won't be cheap to land their man.

Patrick van Aanholt to Everton - 1.4

Some things you can always count on: death, taxes and Sam Allardyce being linked with a former player. After working together at Crystal Palace and Sunderland, the Mirror report the new Everton boss is keen to sign Patrick van Aanholt in January. The Toffees are not blessed with many options down the left-flank and Leighton Baines, 32, is past his peak. Although he only moved to Selhurst Park last January, it's believed the Dutch defender would be keen on the move after losing his place under Roy Hodgson.

Jack Hendry to Newcastle United - 1.4

As he takeover talks at St James' Park roll on, it seems Rafa Benitez will be working on a tight budget this winter and Clubcall report the Spanish boss has set his sights on the 22-year-old centre-back from Dundee. A former Dundee United youth product, he has spent time at Wigan, Shrewsbury and MK Dons before returning to Scotland with the Dee. He has also impressed Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers in his 16 appearances this season and is apparently a Crystal Palace and Southampton target too.
