Tottenham New Boy Moussa Sissoko Claims Hugo Lloris Convinced Him to Join North London Side

Published on: 31 August 2016

Tottenham's deadline day signing reveals that a conversation with international team-mate Hugo Lloris persuaded him to choose north London over Merseyside.

According to the London Evening Standard, Sissoko, who was on the brink of joining Ronald Koeman at Everton, decided to move to the capital on the advice of France captain Lloris.

The lure of Champions League football was also a major incentive in his decision to join Tottenham late on in the transfer window.

Sissoko told the club's website: "I spoke with Hugo Lloris. He told me this club is amazing and everything is here for me to do well, play some good games and fight with the best teams in England.

"They did well last season, they have a great manager and a good team. It's simple."

Sissoko was one of three Tottenham signings on deadline day after he joined his countryman Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and goalkeeper Pau Lopez.

He made 39 appearances in all competitions last year, but could not prevent Newcastle United from sliding into the Championship. He made his intentions to depart St.James' Park clear with Arsenal or Real Madrid rumoured to be his next destination for much of the window.

He played several times for France during Euro 2016 and elevated his profile with some impressive displays as he helped his country reach the final before they lost to Portugal.

He will now return to France during the international break to be reunited with Didier Deschamps' squad ahead of his country's friendly against Italy before taking on Belarus in their first World Cup qualifier.
