"?Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Palermo's Franco Vazquez, according to sports site "?GiveMeSport.

The 27-year-old is said to be interesting the North London outfit, with manager Mauricio Pochettino keen on bringing the attacking midfielder to White Hart Lane.

It is thought that any move for Vazquez will set Tottenham back £22m.

Vazquez has been linked with a move to Manchester United, but it is unclear whether new manager Jose Mourinho will look to make an offer for the former Belgrano footballer.

Pochettino is looking to add quality to his attacking options as Spurs look forward to a first UEFA Champions League campaign for the first time since the 2011/12 season.

The Argentinian already has star names in Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen available to him, but he is said to be eyeing reinforcements as Tottenham plan another Premier League title push to go alongside their ambitions on the continent.

Vazquez joined Italian side Palermo in July 2012 for a fee of around £3.4m, and has gone on to become a mainstay, as well as captain, in the Serie A's first eleven.

The second striker, who can also play on either wing, weighed in with eight goals and six assits in 36 league appearances last term as I Aquile finished 16th in Italy's top flight.

Despite Palermo's low position in the league standings, his form ensured a call-up to Italy's national side by manager Antonio Conte for the upcoming Euro 2016 Championships in France.

The two-times capped international qualified for selection for the Azzurri due to his Italian and Argentinian dual-nationality.

Vazquez has scored 22 goals and provided 22 assists in 109 appearances during his career with Palermo.
