"?Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to activate the release clause of Sporting Lisbon forward Islam Slimani, which currently stands at €30m, according to "?Portuguese media.

The figure, which translates roughly as £23m is allegedly a sum Spurs are willing to pay to secure the services of a player who has scored 26 goals in the Primeira Liga this season.

While Slimani, 27, might be enjoying his most prolific season to date, he has gained a reputation over the years for his clinical finishing, with the player currently the fifth highest goalscorer in Algerian football history.

He went to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil with his national team, and finished as the joint top scorer at the competition with two strikes.

And in early stages of his career he was named Algerian Footballer of the Year, as well as receiving the DZFoot d'or in the same season.

So far in his career with Lisbon he has claimed the Portuguese Cup and the Portuguese Super Cup, but might be hungry to win honours in the Premier League as his career moves towards his late twenties.

Spurs might not have an easy route to signing the player, as Premier League champions Leicester City are rumoured to hold an interest as they look for quality back up options to Jamie Vardy in next season's Champions League.

Tottenham themselves are looking for competition for Harry Kane, who was lucky enough with injuries to start every single Premier League game this season.
