Torino sign Napoli midfielder

As they finish business with fellow Serie A side Napoli, Torino have signed midfielder Mirko Valdifiori in the dying hours of the transfer window.

Nikola Maksimovic completed a switch the other way, and Valdifiori will now play for the Granata after a season with Napoli, before whom he played for Empoli.

As announced on the club’s official website, Torino have signed Valdifiori outright from the Partenopei and he was then welcomed by club president Urbano Cairo.

During his 12 months at Napoli, the 30-year-old played in 16 games in all competitions, scoring no goals but managing three assists, including one recently in the 2016/17 campaign.

His performances at Empoli also saw him be called up to the Italian national squad by then-boss Antonio Conte, making his debut in a 1-1 draw against England in March 2015.

Valdifiori had previously been expected to stay in Naples, as requested by club president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
