Bangkok: As the entire Continent and the world waits in anticipation for the AFC Annual Awards 2017, the-AFC.com gives you a quick guide of our honoured 2017 host -  Bangkok, Thailand, the Land of Smiles.

Thailand will host the AFC Annual Awards 2017 for the first time, and it will definitely be a  memorable night.

Bangkok is a metropolis packed with charm and character. It has come a long way since the 18th century, when it was a small village on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. Today, Bangkok is a vibrant metropolis, home to more than eight million people, and is now proudly the second-most visited city in the world.

Bangkok is a sensory-rich city where centuries-old Buddhist temples co-exist alongside sleek, modern high-rise buildings, bustling markets, lively nightlife and luxury malls.

Many of the city’s best known sights are to be found in the historic centre or Rattanakosin district. The most spectacular is the Grand Palace, which was once home to the King of Thailand and today offers visitors a mixture of architectural splendour and history.

Within the palace grounds is located Thailand’s most revered temple, Wat Phra Kaew, while the other highlights in Rattanakosin include the large reclining Buddha statue at Wat Pho and the Thai-European stylings of Wat Ratchabophit.

Aksra Theatre King Power (pictured below), the venue for the evening’s Awards, is a Baroque-inspired theatre with 600 seats. Embellished with majestic decorations derived from traditional Thai art and interior design, the theatre is a fitting location for the AFC’s prestigious event.
