Super Eagles Loss: Coach faces NFF’s Technical Committee

Published on: 13 June 2017

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) may have had a rethink of its position on the federations technical committee as the committee will today return to work, as it is expected to drill the Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr on the humiliating 0-2 AFCON loss to South Africa last Saturday in Uyo.

Today’s meeting will be the committee’s first meeting with the Eagles coach since his appointment 12 months ago.

The last meeting of the NFF technical committee was in June 2016, when Rohr was present to it by the NFF president.

Today’s meeting at the NFF boardroom, which will be followed by another meeting with the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung will also try to chart the way forward for the national team with focus on a 2018 World Cup double header against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

A member of the technical committee said yesterday that the NFF has decided lately to recognize the committee, after the Eagles loss to South Africa, stressing that the federation had earlier accused the committee of trying to sabotage its effort to qualify for both the world cup and AFCON.

Rohr has worked for the past one year without any contribution from the technical committee as he has never submitted or defended any list before it.

“We have been looking at them as they do everything that is our job. Till this moment, we at the committee do not know anything about the Super Eagles team list, we don’t screen the list, we do not even know the referees and match commissioner that come into the country for our matches. Ordinarily, these are supposed to be the duty of the committee, but only one man has taken charge of things since the coming of Rohr

Äs we are to meet with the minister, I do not even know what will be expected of us because we have not met as a committee since the past one year. Our job was taken away from us, but since they have remembered that we now have roles to play, we are surely going to turn things around and I assure you that if we are given the opportunity to work, we will beat Cameroon in Uyo and pick a draw away. We are also not completely out of AFCON because we are going to restrategize for the remaining matches.” the technical committee member assured.
