Former Chelsea ace John Obi Mikel opened his account for the season in Tianjin Teda's 2-1 win over Guangzhou R&F F.C. on match day six in the Chinese Super League on Saturday, April 14 at the Tianjin Olympic Sports Centre.

Guangzhou R&F opened the scoring through Zhizhao Chen in the 9th minute but Mikel equalized for the home team on 27 minutes, his first goal in the league this season.

Ghanaian Frank Acheampong's shot was blocked by Jihong Jiang in the area, but he somehow managed to pass to Mikel, who rolled the ball past the goalkeeper despite being challenged by two defenders.

In the 29th minute, the scoreboard read 2-1 Tianjin Teda after Jiakang Hui scored with a header and Mikel was in the penalty area waiting to pounce for any scraps if the ball had not gone in after Acheampong swung in a corner from the right.

Following their second win of the season, Tianjin Teda occupy the eighth position in the provisional standings with eight points.

Their number ten has started and completed every single game played by the club so far this season.
