Seydou Doumbia has said that despite playing only three minutes under Rafa Benitez during his loan spell at Newcastle he does not consider the move a mistake, according to La Roma 24 (Via "?The Mag).

In February of this year, the 28-year-old striker was enlisted by then Magpies boss Steve McClaren, with the hope of changing their poor fortunes in front of goal.

But the Ivorian made a mere two appearances for the club spell under McClaren's rein, amassing fewer than 30 minutes playing time.

Doumbia's misfortunes then continued as former Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitiz took the helm in an effort to save the club from relegation.

He played just three minutes of football under the Spaniard before returning to Italian club Roma, who he joined in January of last year for a deal which could rise to €15.9m.

However, despite these shortcomings, Doumbia, who scored an astonishing 61 goals in 95 appearances during a five-year spell at Russian side CSKA Moscow, said his short spell in the Premier League was not a pointless one.

Doumbia told La Roma 24: "?"The move to England was not a mistake.

"It was still an interesting experience "? though not positive.

"It didn't go exactly the way that I wanted, but in football, as in life generally, every experience is useful.

"I was not in bad condition but apparently I did not feature in Rafa Benitez' plans.

"I can't blame him as he makes the choices that he feels are right."?

Doubmia has also failed to find his feet under Luciano Spalletti at Roma and looks likely to be moved on over the course of the summer break.

When asked by La Roma 24 whether the striker will return to the Premier League or continue playing in Russia Doumbia's agent, Jean Bernard Beytrison said: "Next week I will go to Switzerland and we will take stock of the situation to figure out what we want to do."
