Former Super Eagles defender Ajibade Babalade believes it is too late for Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr to start scouting for new players ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Cameroon.
The Eagles were defeated 2-0 by South Africa on Saturday in their first Group E game of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with the double header against Cameroon in August the next on the agenda of the team.
Babalade spoke exclusively to Completesportsnigeria.com on Tuesday on his thoughts on the way forward after the humiliating defeat to the Bafana Bafana side that had never defeated Nigeria in a competitive game before last weekend.
The way forward is that Gernot Rohr should just try and talk to the players and try to bring back the confidence and winning mentally back. Their confidence is definitely hit by the loss on Saturday. The good thing is that this is just the first game of the AFCON qualifiers.
"Now Cameroon are their next opponents in the the 2018.World Cup qualifiera. In our days, yes, we used to have very physical players especially in the defence, but it is too late to start scouting for such players now, he should just try and work with the ones he has now.
"I feel this is a confidence thing. Besides, we missed some players who should be back for Cameroon," the onetime Shooting Stars of Ibadan told Completesportsnigeria.com.
