Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr has been mandated to henceforth submit his list of invited players to the Nigeria Football Federation’s Technical and Development Committee which will verify and approve it before it is released.

This was part of the decisions taken at the meeting between the NFF management, the technical committee and the Eagles Coaches on Tuesday in Abuja.

The Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung also urged the NFF to bridge the existing gap between the technical adviser and the technical committee to avoid future embarrassments to the country.

Before this mandate, Coach Gernot Rohr and his agents have taken charge of the invitation of players for all the Super Eagles matches without the input of the technical committee, which has not met in the past 12 months.

Speaking to newsmen after Tuesday’s separate meetings with the Sports Minister and Coach Gernot Rohr, Chairman of the Technical and Development Committee, Christopher Green, noted that such measures will help the country avoid such loses like the one against South Africa, as they will scrutinize the list of players invited especially the quality of players.

“We met with Coach Rohr after we had met with the Honourable Minister of Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung, and we took decisions to forestall the kind of occurrence that saw us losing scandalously to South Africa on Saturday.

“Henceforth, the Technical and Development Committee will meet frequently and also scrutinise, critique and vet the list of players that are invited into our national team.

The coach will also announce his list at a press conference which will allow sports journalists to ask questions regarding the players invited. “This, we believe will aid us in ensuring the right players are given the look in by the national team handlers and mediocre players will not find their way into the team,” Green pointed out.
