REVEALED: Hoffenheim Defender Niklas Sule Explains Why He Turned Down Liverpool

Published on: 12 June 2016

"?Hoffenheim defender Niklas Sule has revealed to German newspaper Bild - as quoted by the "?Express - that "?he turned down a move to Liverpool in favour of regular playing time.

Sule stated in an interview that he felt that he would develop more as a player if he stayed in Germany, stating: "Here I have my usual environment, the proximity to my family in Frankfurt.

"To develop myself, I need playing time and a coach who trusts me. I have that in Julian Nagelsmann. He knows me well and knows where and how he can make me better."

Sule made 34 appearances in all competitions for Hoffenheim last season, in a season which saw them finish one spot above the Bundesliga relegation play-off.

The 20-year-old was linked with a move to Anfield, with manager Jurgen Klopp hoping to expend his defensive options for the upcoming season.

The Liverpool boss has already begun raiding the Bundesliga for players, signing Joel Matip on a free transfer from Schalke, and Loris Karius from Mainz.

Defence seems to be the priority for the former Borussia Dortmund manager, with major uncertainty surrounding Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho.

Skrtel is reportedly looking for a move away from Liverpool, with Besiktas leading the chase for the Slovakian, and Mamadou Sakho could be unavailable if he is banned by UEFA after failing a drugs test back in April, and with the release of Kolo Toure, centre-backs are in short order at Anfield.

Klopp is also thought to have made an enquiry to Dortmund over the availability of Serbian defender Neven Subotic, but the international has been out for the last two months with thrombosis.
