Officials of the Bundesliga side have told Ghana’s leading football portal, that apart from his lack of fitness, the club opted to dispense with the services of the 28-year-old on disciplinary grounds.

Boateng is believed to have become a negative influence in the dressing room, which sparked talks about his dismissal.

But officials were tight-lipped on the issue until it became apparent they could not deal with him any longer.

A damaging picture of the former AC Milan star smoking beer and cigarette highlighted his troubles at the club.

He had become a bad influence on the young players, resulting in the decision to sack him from the club, insiders have told GHANAsoccernet.com.

Boateng has been suspended from the Ghana national team after he was sacked from the team’s camp during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil after he was reported to have verbally assaulted former coach Kwesi Appiah.
