Ex-Kotoko defender Rahim Ayew has blamed Ghanaian journalists for the perceived decline of the local league.

The 27-year-old claims the local media have made it difficult for players to return home to enrich the domestic league due to their incessant criticism.

Ayew left Europe to sign for Kotoko amid criticism he failed to establish himself in the more stellar league.

The Ghana League is perceived to be on the decline with many foreign-based players reluctant to return for fear of being tagged as failures.

He says journalists should shoulder the blame for the perceived decline in the local league.

“Ghana's league is in decline because of some journalists, when I decided to come to Ghana to re-launch my career certain journalists criticized my decision stating that I failed in Europe that is why I have decided to come to Ghana and due to those kind of comments host of Ghanaian players abroad are being reluctant in coming to Ghana to re-launch their career,” he claimed on Metro TV’s sports file.

Ayew has ended his stay with the Porcupine Warriors over contractual disagreements.
