Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has refused to criticise the decision of coach Gernot Rohr who dropped him for Nantes bound defender Chidozie Awaziem in Nigeria’s 0-2 loss against South Africa.
Awaziem was preferred ahead of Omeruo by the Franco-German coach of the Super Eagles in the clash against South Africa, the move didn’t turn out as planned as Nigeria conceded two avoidable goals to lose the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers game.
Most Nigerians fault the coach for picking 20 year old Awaziem ahead of the experienced Omeruo, but the 24 year old who has been a stalwart at the back for Nigeria since 2013 insist the manager has the final say on who gets to play.
He further said the team has learnt from the loss to South Africa, and they will use the lesson learnt appropriately in their subsequent games?.
“It happens in football, but we will learn from this and move on better,” he said.
“The coach made a decision, and as players, we must back him and others picked for the team to succeed.”
