Kenneth Omeruo is confident the Super Eagles will learn valuable lessons from their painful exit from the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Chelsea defender Omeruo made two appearances for the Super Eagles at the tournament as Gernot Rohr’s side crashed out after losing 2-1 in their final group game to Argentina, who scrapped through courtesy of a late goal from Marcos Rojo.

“We were unlucky, sincerely, because we did what we should have done,” Omeruo, who could not stop Lionel Messi from scoring on Tuesday, told CSN.

“Our young team has gained lessons from this and the lessons will make us bounce back better.

“Nigerians were so supportive but we apologise. We will make them proud again.”

The 25-year-old defender also kept mum over his future at Chelsea, insisting he wants to enjoy his break before resuming talks about his next move.

“I want to cool off after a tough tournament. After that I will decide where my future lies,” he Omeruo, who has not played an official senior march for Chelsea since joining in 2012, added
