Okocha Backs Iheanacho To Leave Man City

Legendary former Nigeria midfielder and captain, Austin Okocha, says it will be a welcome decision if Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho departs Manchester City.

Iheanacho has been touted to leave Manchester City before the start of the new season with Leicester City set to sign the youngster.

The 20-year-old who boasts of the best goals-to-minutes ratio of any player to have scored 10 or more goals in the Premier League (scoring 12 goals in 1,278 minutes over the past two seasons), saw little playing time under City manager Pep Guardiola last season, hence the reports about his planned move.

Commenting on Iheanacho's current situation at City, Okocha who is currently representing Nigeria at the Star Sixes football tournament  in London, posited that Iheanacho needs a club where he will be a regular.

"He has come of that age when he needs regular first-team games," Okocha told ESPN.

"It will be a better decision for him to go somewhere where he can play week in, week out. I think it's a great decision for him to move out of Manchester City this season.

"You never know (if he can be a 20-goal striker) until he starts playing regularly," he said. "That's every player's dream, to be a starter. Hopefully, he will be able to show he has what it takes to be a starter in any team."
