Akwa United have appointed Aliyu Zubair as chief coach for the 2016-17 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

Previous to his appointment with the Promise Keepers, Zubair was the head coach of the Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Kwara United.

The Uyo outfit chairman, Paul Bassey, said that Zubair will help coach Abdul Maikaba to build a formidable Akwa United team for the upcoming top-flight.

Bassey also introduced former Wikki Tourists man Abdullahi Tyabo Umar as one of the assistant coaches of the club.

The Akwa United supremo charged the players to show total commitment to training and shun all manners of indiscipline in order to excel in their careers.

Zubair promised to put in his very best to support Maikaba to take Akwa United back to Africa.

“I am here for Akwa United, I will do my very best for the team.

“My support to boss, Abdul Maikaba and management will be total and together we will take the side back to Africa at the end of the upcoming NPFL season.”

Akwa United finished the NPFL season in 14th position on 47 points, while the Federation Cup title they won last year was recently claimed by top-flight side, FC IfeanyiUbah.
